Application | Copper concentrate transfer | Pump | 450 horizontal slurry pump
450 Pump for Copper Concentrate Transfer
Project Background
A copper concentrator needed to move copper concentrate between the thickening and the next process stage. Copper concentrate slurry is denser and slightly more aggressive than typical tailings, so the transfer pump has to hold a steady rate without letting seal water dilute the product stream.
Operating Duty
Pump size: 450-class horizontal slurry pump
Flow: approximately 700–850 m³/h
Head: about 30–38 m
Solids: copper concentrate at roughly 50%–60% by weight, mildly acidic pH
Matec Solution
We supplied high-chrome metallic wet-end parts for the 450 pump and configured an expeller-type seal arrangement to minimize the clean-water flush required at the gland — important where seal water would otherwise dilute the concentrate. Material certificates and dimensional reports were supplied with the parts so the plant could record them against its asset register.
Result
The transfer ran at a stable rate through the production shift, and dilution from gland water stayed within the plant's target. The same pump family has since been supplied on repeat orders for the concentrate circuit.
