A slurry pump only earns money while it is running. For plants on a 24/7 schedule — especially those far from a supplier — the difference between a planned two-hour swap and a three-week wait is the difference between a nuisance and a crisis. Spare-parts planning is therefore part of the pump specification, not an afterthought.
Split parts into two groups
Critical wet-end parts — impeller, volute liner, throat bush, frame and cover plate liners. These decide whether the pump runs, so they should be on the shelf in proportion to the service interval.
Consumable and structural items — fasteners, gaskets, shaft sleeves, seal kits. Cheap to hold, expensive to be without.
A simple rule
For a pump running continuously with, say, a six-week wear-part life, holding at least one full wet-end set on site is the baseline. Plants with long shipping lead times or a single-source risk often hold more, and some move to a consignment or buffer-stock arrangement with their supplier.
Keep the records clean
A spare is only useful if you know it fits the pump in service. Recording part numbers, drawings and the pump's serial reference against each stored item avoids the classic mistake of holding the wrong impeller when the line goes down.
